Unity in Action: Manna House Ministries’ Journey of Growth and Community Impact
Our Story
Manna House Ministries’ humble beginnings stretch back to 1987 when they were located in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rincon, Ga. While housed in that facility three other local churches, Rincon Church of God, Rincon First Baptist, and Rincon United Methodist Church, joined forces to reduce hunger and provide hope to our local community. What a beautiful picture of UNITY – a Lutheran, Pentecostal, Baptist, and Methodist Church working together to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus.
Two years later the Manna House moved to the First Baptist Church in Rincon, Ga. While at that location they could expand the Thrift Store and serve more families. In 1999, with the generous help provided by Habitat for Humanity, Manna House Ministries moved into their current location 1210 Patriot Drive, Rincon. Since moving to the new location, Manna House has added an 8000-square-foot Food Pantry, enlarged the Thrift Store, and added a separate Processing Center where donated items are sorted and prepared so they can be sold in the Thrift Store. Sales generated in the Thrift Store are used to help fund our needs in the food pantry. Partnerships with local grocery stores and the Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia have enabled us to distribute a wide variety of foods including fresh poultry, meats, and produce along with bakery goods and other assorted dried and canned foods to our community each week. During COVID we transitioned from an in-house pickup Food Pantry to a drive-through food distribution system which we presently continue to use as our method of food distribution. With the help of community fundraising in 2022, we were able to install a walk-in freezer and remodel the pantry to accommodate a walk-in cooler which helps to maintain the quality and freshness of the food we can give to those in need. We have seen so much growth since 1989. Manna House in its infancy began serving 20 families and has grown to serving over 1400 families per month with over 4300 individuals within those families.
Manna House has been richly blessed by local churches, schools, individuals, and corporations continually supplying our organization with monetary support, food donations, and tangible items sold in our Thrift Store. Our greatest asset is our VOLUNTEERS. They drive the organization; we would be at a standstill without them.
Manna House Ministries is made up of many moving pieces.
Unified partnership is the key to completing our mission of “reducing hunger and providing hope” in our community. Join us. We can’t do it ALONE.
